Janelle McDermoth is a multi-platform creator from The Bronx, New York and graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
Celebrated by The New Yorker as “a total star, with endless charisma and a magnificent voice,” she recently garnered her first Obie Award playing Rowan in Raja Feather Kelly’s The Fires at Soho Rep. She previously starred in We’re Gonna Die at Second Stage Theater, where her performance was praised by the New York Times as “deliciously matter of fact”, and garnered a Lucille Lortel Nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress, Antonyo Award nomination, and an Outer Critics Circle Honor.
On camera, Janelle appears in Darren Aronofsky’s latest feature, Caught Stealing, opposite Austin Butler. She has appeared on numerous television shows (Blue Bloods, High Maintenance, Law and Order:SVU), Netflix’s, To All The Boys: Always and Forever, Lara Jean and made her Broadway debut as Frieda in A Bronx Tale.
As a writer/creator, Janelle has presented work with The Movement Theater, Public Theater, and Ars Nova. Gemini Behavior, her genre-bending one-woman theatrical experience fusing stand up comedy, astrological education, and vibrant original music, was commissioned for the inaugural Pipeline Theatre NewWorks Accelerator Initiative.
Previously, she served as vocalist, beatboxer, and vocal arranger for a number of award-winning collegiate and professional a cappella groups—most notably, Off The Beat and RANGE.
She's the middle child of three sisters, has lived on four continents, and when she’s not performing, enjoys women’s basketball, astrology podcasts, and portrait photography. @janellemcdrmth
